As for me, I have always used NCAA Football to make my own playoff. Well, that is until Ed O'Bannon's scholarship was wasted on a car dealership in the City of Sin. Whatever the case may be, I now use What If Sports to run my usual championship. I used to run a twelve team tournament, but now I am expanding to sixteen teams but am keeping the same sort of rules in the past. This year, I intend to post it all on this blog.
The tournament that I have created has games that take place right after the weekend of the conference championships, during the weekend of the Army-Navy game. This year, the five teams from the big five conferences have the automatic top five spots. From there, the College Football Playoff rankings determine the remaining teams, with two guarenteed spots going to teams from the "sisters of the poor" conferences. Independent teams get in if they are in the top sixteen without displacing one of the guaranteed two "sotp" teams. That means the rankings for this year are:
1: Alabama
2: Oregon
3: Florida State
4: Ohio State
5: Baylor
6: Texas Christian
7: Mississippi State
8: Michigan State
9: Mississippi
10: Arizona
11: Kansas State
12: Georgia Tech
13: Georgia
14: California-Los Angeles
15: Boise State
16: Marshall
Games would be kept to Friday and Saturday in order to try and keep kids on the same six to seven day schedule as they are during the regular season. All games of the playoff with the exception of the National Championship and semi-finals will be held at the site of the lower seed, and there will be no re-seeding. The National Championship will rotate as required, and the semi-final bowls will rotate like they do with the real-life playoff. While it is not perfect, the schedule would include (all times Eastern):
#1 Alabama vs. #16 Marshall - Friday, December 12th
12:00 pm - Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, Alabama
#7 Mississippi State vs. #10 Arizona - Friday, December 12th
3:00 pm - Scott Field, Starkville, Mississippi
#5 Baylor vs. #12 Georgia Tech - Friday, December 12th
6:00 pm - McLane Stadium, Waco, Texas
#2 Oregon vs. #15 Boise State - Friday, December 12th
9:00 pm - Autzen Stadium, Eugene, Oregon
#8 Michigan State vs. #9 Mississippi - Saturday, December 13th
11:00 am - Spartan Stadium, East Lansing, Michigan
#6 Texas Christian vs. #11 Kansas State - Saturday, December 13th
2:00 pm - Amon G. Carter Stadium, Fort Worth, TX
#4 Ohio State vs. #13 Georgia - Saturday, December 13th
5:00 pm - Ohio Stadium, Columbus, Ohio
#3 Florida State vs. #14 California-Los Angeles - Saturday, December 13th
8:00 pm - Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, Florida
In my next post, I will play out these games.
